The Minister of State for European Affairs, Peter Burke TD, has congratulated 49 local community groups, educational institutes, local media and local authorities who have been awarded funding under the Department of Foreign Affairs 2024 Communicating Europe Initiative scheme.
2024 is a significant year for the EU, with the 1st of May being the 20th anniversary of the Day of Welcomes when 10 new Member States joined the European Union, and European Parliamentary elections in June. These events provide an invaluable opportunity to engage our citizens on EU issues, and promote the positive impact the EU has on our lives.
Announcing the funding allocations for 2024, the Minister of State congratulated the successful projects, all of which will make an extremely valuable contribution to the ongoing debate on Ireland’s place in, and the future of the European Union.
The Minister said:
“As Minister for European Affairs, I am delighted to award over €315,000 in funding this year under the Communicating Europe Initiative, benefitting educational institutions, community groups, non-profit organisations and Local Authorities.
The projects represent a wide-variety of initiatives, including live debates, schools events, podcasts, exhibitions and conferences. I commend those who were successful in the application process and look forward to seeing the creative ways in which these projects come to life.”
